Sunday Evening (2/8) Weather Discussion

(Updated: 7:45 pm)
I hope everyone had the chance to get out and enjoy the almost spring-like conditions today.  Areas that saw sunshine generally climbed into the 60s and 70s while a stubborn cloud deck kept temperatures in the 50s across both far northern and far southwestern Virginia.
Recorded High Temperatures Sunday
Heading into tomorrow...a low pressure system will work in and provide the chance for a few showers throughout the day.  Some colder air will get dragged in as the system starts to depart off to the east tomorrow night.  Depending on how much moisture is left behind, some of the higher elevations may end as a quick burst of snow.

Tuesday and Wednesday will then be pretty nice with lots of sunshine and temperatures just above average...ranging anywhere from the 40s west of the Blue Ridge and 50s east.  A clipper will drag an arctic front through the area Thursday.  This will bring snow showers to the western facing slopes...I wouldn't be surprised to see a few flurries bleed over into valley locations as well.  The bigger story will be the cold that works in Thursday night through the weekend with temperatures generally 10-15 degrees below average over this stretch.  Parts of western Virginia may go 3 days without temperatures breaking the freezing mark with nighttime lows dropping well into the teens and single digits.  Still waiting on a big storm to meet up with some of this cold.
