1/17: Wedged Between Systems Sunday; Lots of Clouds but Mostly Dry

Two systems to affect the area on Sunday:

1) An area of low pressure moving up the eastern seaboard will allow a stream of moisture to develop and ride over the eastern 1/3 of the state. The heaviest rain will be focused along and east of I95 to the coast where up to an inch of rain will be possible. There will be a sharp western cutoff with amounts keeping the western piedmont areas mostly dry.

2) Energy associated with a passing cold front will bring upslope precipitation across the western facing slopes. This will likely begin as rain but gradually change to snow late Sunday afternoon as colder air works in. The typically favored upslope areas could see a few inches..this includes many of the ski resort areas such as Snowshoe and Timberline. Snow showers will likely continue Sunday night before tapering off Monday afternoon.

The Shenandoah Valley will be wedged between the two keeping things mostly cloudy throughout the day. Can't rule out an isolated shower or flurry but things right now look to stay mostly dry
