1/12: Event # 2 on the way Tuesday Night-Wednesday AM

Tuesday, January 13th 7am Update
Winter storm watches and winter weather advisories starting to go up for parts of southside, southeast, and central VA.  Here's where we stand right now; wouldn't be surprised to see these expanded a bit north and west later today:

END UPDATE

Event # 1 Sunday night into Monday morning behaved pretty much as expected.  Generally trace ice amounts were found up and down the Valley with up to as much as 0.10" up towards Winchester.  (Here are reported totals from the National Weather Service in Sterling)...just enough to cause a few slick spots and school closings and delays this morning.  Watch out for patches of black ice in the morning as temperatures drop below freezing again tonight.

We now have event # 2 to deal with Tuesday night into early Wednesday.  The cold front swinging through tonight will get a bit hung up off the Carolina Coast tomorrow.  An area of low pressure will form along it out in the Atlantic, just close enough to throw a bit of light precipitation back our way.  Enough cold air will work in behind the front to cause more wintry issues.  Right now..it appears that the piedmont of NC/VA have the best shot to see a prolonged period of freezing drizzle/light freezing rain...say from Raleigh up towards Richmond and Williamsburg.  Some of this will likely extend even further north and west allowing western NC up through Danville and other central VA areas to get in on the action.  Precipitation will sort of hit a wall of dry air northwest of there so not expecting much if any to get into the Shenandoah Valley.  With that said, not completely ready to write off a few flurries or sleet pellets...especially right along the eastern side of the Blue Ridge Mountains where upsloping could aid in squeezing out a bit of moisture.

Here are my current thoughts...I'll try to add some possible amounts to this tomorrow.
