6/29: 2 year derecho anniversary; still watching invest 91L

Sunday (6/29) 12pm
Today marks the 2 year anniversary of the June 29, 2012 derecho that swept through the Ohio Valley into the mid-Atlantic leaving millions without power.  Mine wasn't cut back on for nearly two weeks.  This was by far the most widespread destructive severe event our areas seen in at least the past quarter century.  I'm sure everyone reading this we impacted one way or another.

Jumping back to current weather, invest 91L continues to spin off the southeastern coast.  Tropical models continue to drift this system south before making a loop and getting picked up the eastern seaboard.  There's still lots of uncertainty how much strengthening will occur before this happens.  Regardless, anyone visiting the outer banks, myrtle or va beach areas later this week into the 4th of July weekend should keep an eye on it. It wouldn't surprise me if this eventually gets to low end tropical storm strength.

Closer to home, heat and humidity will increase the next few days along with better chances for showers and thunderstorms.  A cold front will swing through by mid week, setting the stage for what currently looks to be a very nice (not too hot) 4th of July weekend in the Valley.

Next 3 days
Today: high 84. Low 64. 20% chance of isolated mountain t'storm
Monday: high 86. Low 66. 50% chance of afternoon t'storms
Tuesday: high 89. Low 67. 50 % chance of afternoon t'storms
