I don't have much time for a detailed blog but wanted to give some quick thoughts on the Thursday night and Friday system. A storm system will be developing across the northern Gulf and tracking up along the southeastern coast. Once low pressure is off the Carolina coast, high pressure over New England will shunt northern movement and force the storm to start heading east and out to sea. There will be enough cold air in place at lower levels to produce a thin area of wintry precipitation across western NC and western VA. The higher elevations of the southern Blue Ridge will have the most cold air and moisture interaction. Precipitation will begin to fall apart north of here, although I wouldn't be surprised for a few light areas of mix to make it as far north as the southern and central Shenandoah Valley. Overall not a huge deal, but should be enough to reach winter weather advisory criteria for most of the southern Blue Ridge.
