Clouds are already beginning to spread north as our weekend low pressure system takes shape. Expect showers to break out across southern areas tonight---likely not reaching the Shenandoah Valley 'til late tomorrow.
Low clouds with periods of rain will then continue on and off through the weekend before tapering off late Sunday. Amounts will vary depending on location with highest totals the further south you go. Expect 0.5-1.5" or so in the Shenandoah Valley. If you live along or south of I-64, 1-3" with locally higher amounts is a decent bet. Due to easterly flow off the Atlantic, there will also be enhancement along eastern facing slopes where some locations will end up in the 3-5" range. Due to how dry it has been and the fact that these totals will be spread out over several days, not too concerned about widespread flooding. With that said, some streams will approach minor flood stage so just keep an eye out if you live in a prone area.
Coastal areas will also experience consistent onshore breezes gusting as high 20-30 mph at times which will certainly rough up the water. Buoys off Virginia Beach are already registering wave heights on the order of 6-8 feet. Minor coastal flooding and moderate beach erosion expected.
Overall, just a pretty gray, wet weekend. Find a way to enjoy.
