A Near-Wash Out is on the Way
Confidence is increasing that a wave of low pressure will cross through the lower Ohio Valley into the southern mid Atlantic Thursday before heading up the coast and out to sea Friday. This has the characteristics of a large scale almost fall-like system as opposed to the pop-up hit or miss storms you expect during the summer. Rain will break out across far western Virginia by late morning, gradually spreading east through the day. Periods of showers will continue on and off Thursday night into Friday before gradually tapering off west to east. Precipitation amounts in the 0.5-1.0" range will be common across the state with as much as 2.0" where the heavier bands end up setting up. Things will clear out in time for the weekend which is looking very nice with lots of sun and slightly below average temperatures and humidity.
