Drier air working in aloft has helped displace the wedge leading to lots of sunshine across the Valley. Temperatures will climb into the 70s this afternoon. There is a chance for a shower or two with a weak passing cold front..but not expecting much. It gets even better on Saturday with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid 70s.
Enjoy because a cold front associated with an upper level closed low tracking across the the northern part of the country will bring another soaking rain Sunday PM into the beginning of next week. This low may get hung up over eastern Canada bringing an extended period of below normal temperatures to wrap up the month of April. If there was ever a pattern for a late spring frost/freeze (or even a few mountain snow flakes....yes snow flakes in the central Appalachians)...this would be it. Nothing all that uncommon...there has actually been several recent years around my birthday (April 23rd) that have featured light mountain snows. Just something to watch going forward. Enjoy the nice start to the weekend.
