Monday Evening (2/9) Weather Discussion

(1115pm update)
Getting a few reports of light freezing drizzle along and east of the northern Blue Ridge to the suburbs right outside DC and Baltimore.  There have even been reports of sleet mixing in with the rain down towards the Richmond area.  Don't be surprised for a slick commute tomorrow AM across some of these areas.  I'm beginning to think some of this may even make it to coastal areas of southeastern VA + the eastern shore.

END UPDATE
-----------------------------
(Posted 6:45pm)
With northerly winds allowing cold air to drain south and a bit of left over moisture still around...watch out for pockets of flurries or freezing drizzle tonight especially up across the northern Shenandoah Valley and DC metro area.  The National Weather Service went ahead and issued a winter weather advisory for trace amounts of ice for Loudon county...wouldn't surprise me to see these expanded later this evening.  As cold air continues to crash further south through the early morning hours on Tuesday...the I95 corridor between Richmond and DC may even see a brief change over to wintry precipitation.  Not expecting anything major but short range models are indicating this may be enough for some AM commute issues.

*Bitter cold returns Thursday and lasts through the weekend...additional shots at flurries/light snow showers on Thursday and Saturday mainly across western mountain areas.
630 pm radar and surface temperatures
